Well know to us here in Detroit, Elmore Leonard, the crime novelist on whose work such movies as “Get Shorty”, “Out of Sight” and “Jackie Brown” — and the TV show “Justified” — were based, has died. The native of New Orleans worked in advertising before turning to fiction in Michigan, where he was known as “The Dickens of Detroit.” Leonard, was working on his 46th novel when he suffered a stroke earlier this month.
